  • Residents resort to contaminated water from dugouts
  • Residents appeal to government and MP for potable water solution

Residents of Ahwiam and surrounding areas in the Ningo-Prampram District are enduring a severe water shortage, leaving many in desperate need of access to clean drinking water. The ongoing crisis has continued for years, with no solution in sight and little information from local authorities.

The residents have been forced to rely on contaminated water from dugouts, as the only available stream in the area is rapidly drying up. Despite their best efforts to engage with local officials, including the assembly member, they say their concerns have been ignored.

In an interview with Adom News, several residents expressed their frustration, calling for urgent action to provide a sustainable water supply. Local school pupils also shared their challenges, revealing that they resort to digging holes in the dried-up stream to find water, a process they said is unsafe but necessary.

The community is now appealing to both the government and their Member of Parliament, Sam Nartey George, for immediate assistance in securing access to potable water.

“We need urgent intervention,” one resident said. “Our children are at risk, and we cannot continue living like this. We need clean water for our health and well-being.”
