Nigerian singer Portable, known for his controversial public persona, has turned himself in to the Ogun State Police Command after being declared wanted in connection with an alleged violent attack on government officials.
The singer, who was declared wanted on Monday, February 17, 2025, voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on the morning of Tuesday, February 18. He is currently being transported to Ogun State, where he will be handed over to the local police for further investigation.
The incident that led to the police action reportedly occurred during an enforcement exercise conducted by officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. Portable, along with nine of his associates, is accused of assaulting the officials, leaving them injured.
While nine of Portable’s associates were arrested in connection with the attack, the singer initially evaded capture. Amid the controversy, Portable posted a video claiming to be a “madman” undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta. However, Ogun State Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola quickly dismissed the claim, stating that there was no record of Portable receiving any treatment at the facility. Odutola emphasized that Portable would be required to face investigation.
With the singer now in police custody, authorities are expected to take legal action regarding the alleged assault, as investigations into the matter continue.
