The MTN FA Cup Round of 16 matches will proceed as planned, but without Asante Kotoko, the Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Wilson Arthur, confirmed on Tuesday.

While the Porcupine Warriors have resumed training today, they have decided to opt out of official competitions until justice is served following the tragic death of their supporter, Francis Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley.

Pooley was fatally attacked during Kotoko’s Matchday 19 encounter against Nsoatreman FC at Nana Kronmansah Park, an incident that led to the indefinite suspension of the Ghana Premier League.

Despite the absence of Asante Kotoko, the MTN FA Cup will continue as scheduled. Arthur assured fans that the Round of 16 games will take place across various venues, although Kotoko’s fixture will be postponed.

“The Round of 16 games will go ahead as planned across the various venues but without Asante Kotoko,” Arthur said during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

He further stated, “I know they are resuming training today, and what I know is that a date will be fixed for their game.”

Asante Kotoko was originally set to host Sekondi Eleven Wise at the Baba Yara Stadium in the Round of 16.
