CLOGSAG to Begin Strike Action Tomorrow

- CLOGSAG to begin strike action on February 20
- Strike opposes appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway
- Association cites concerns over partisanship in Civil Service
The Civil Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has confirmed that its members will commence a strike on Tuesday, February 20, 2025, following unresolved issues regarding the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchwey as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
Executive Secretary of the Association, Isaac Bampoe, reiterated that despite government assurances to address their concerns, the strike notice issued last week remains in effect.
“The strike is on,” Bampoe declared, emphasizing that the situation had not changed. He pointed out that Adom Botchwey, who represents the Births and Deaths Registry, was still actively engaged in his duties, having attended the budget hearing at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs on Monday, February 17, 2025.
CLOGSAG is strongly opposed to Adom Botchwey’s appointment, citing his political affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The group argues that his partisan background makes him unsuitable for the role, emphasizing the need for neutrality in the Civil and Local Government Services.
At a press conference two weeks ago, CLOGSAG members voiced their concerns, stressing that his partisanship compromised his qualifications for the position. The association has remained firm in its stance, ensuring the importance of impartiality in public service roles.
In a statement released on February 13, CLOGSAG members were instructed to lay down their tools starting Thursday, February 20, 2025, in protest against Adom Botchwey’s assumption of office. The strike action is expected to disrupt operations until their demands are addressed.
