  • Families urged to claim relatives by February 28, 2025
  • Other hospitals, including Bogoso and Tema General, also plan mass burials

The Police Hospital in Accra has announced plans to conduct a mass burial of approximately 200 unclaimed bodies currently stored in its mortuary. The burial, which is set to take place in the first quarter of 2025, is part of an effort to alleviate congestion and improve storage conditions at the facility.

Relatives of missing persons are being urged to contact the hospital’s pathology department to identify and claim any deceased family members before the deadline of February 28, 2025. After this date, all unclaimed bodies will be included in the mass burial.

The initiative follows similar actions taken by other hospitals across the country. In the Western Region, the Police Hospital in Bogoso is preparing to bury seven unclaimed bodies that have been in its mortuary for 20 months. Additionally, the Tema General Hospital is also planning mass burials due to overcrowding in its morgue.

The Police Hospital has called on the public to take note of the announcement and help spread the information to ensure that any potential claims are made before the deadline.
