“I Don’t Feel I Am Rich, It’s Diligence and Grace” – Dr. Kwaku Oteng

- Dr. Kwaku Oteng says he doesn't feel rich despite his wealth
- He gets anxious handling large sums
- Past robbery trauma causes fear
Dr. Kwaku Oteng, the President and founder of the Angel Group of Companies, has shared that he experiences sleepless nights whenever he has significant sums of money in his home, revealing that such situations always leave him feeling on edge. The businessman disclosed this in an interview with Saddick Adams, where he also addressed the question of when he realized he had amassed wealth.
“I never realized that I am rich. The reason is that you won’t come and find the money lying all around,” Dr. Oteng said. He went on to recount a story he had heard about Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote, who once withdrew one million dollars and only then realized his wealth.
For Dr. Oteng, even when his clients settle their debts, such as paying him one million cedis, he admits that he cannot sleep. “I am unable to sleep. I fear…I don’t feel I am rich, I think it’s diligence, grace, and the mercy of God. I don’t have money,” he explained, expressing how the presence of wealth in his possession does not lead him to feel financially secure.
The entrepreneur attributed his ongoing fear and anxiety to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which he has lived with since becoming a victim of an armed robbery attack in 2000. This traumatic experience, he explained, continues to impact his emotional state, particularly in situations involving large sums of money.
