Education Minister Announces National Standardised Test for Basic School Students

Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced plans to introduce a National Standardised Test (NST) aimed at better preparing students in basic schools for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The new test, which will be conducted for students in Class 2, Class 4, Class 6, and Junior Secondary School (JSS) 2, is designed to help students adjust to the examination environment before sitting for the BECE.

Iddrisu shared the details of the initiative during a public forum held on Monday, February 17. He emphasized that the NST’s purpose is to psychologically prepare students for national assessments, providing them with the opportunity to become familiar with the examination process ahead of time.

“I am happy to announce that a National Standardised Test will be introduced in Ghana for P2, P4, P6, and JSS2. The intention is simple—we don’t want students to experience an examination setting for the first time only at BECE. This test will familiarize them with the examination environment and better equip them for national assessments,” the Minister stated.

The NST is expected to improve learning outcomes by identifying students’ strengths and weaknesses early on, ensuring that they are well-prepared for future examinations.
