- Wontumi: "It's not my turn yet" to become Kotoko chairman
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed his ambition to become the chairman of Asante Kotoko. Popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, he revealed his vision for revitalizing the club during an interview on Wontumi Radio.
Chairman Wontumi, who has been instrumental in Ghanaian politics, particularly in the Ashanti Region, shared his plans to restore Asante Kotoko’s former glory by bringing in top-tier players. “Because of the NPP, sometimes I don’t serve as I’m supposed to, but I still contribute in other ways. But I know that one day, I will be Kotoko chairman. And when I become chairman, I will use money and aggression to make the team as great as it was under Herbert,” he said.
Reflecting on the impact of former coach Herbert Mensah, Chairman Wontumi added, “We all saw what Herbert did, so I will apply all of that with a bit of pride. The level I will take Kotoko to, everyone will see. But just as Jesus told Mary, ‘It’s not my time yet,’ I will also say that it’s not my turn yet.”
Asante Kotoko is currently under the stewardship of the Interim Management Committee, with Nana Apinkra Akwesi Awuah serving as chairman. Chairman Wontumi’s aspiration to lead the club is seen as a significant development in Ghanaian football.
