A disturbing incident has unfolded in Nigeria, where a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Jude Muokwe, has been accused of physically assaulting a 50-year-old teacher, Mrs. Ikeorah Maureen, in her classroom. The alleged attack occurred following a disagreement over the distribution of lesson fees.
According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation escalated when Mrs. Ikeorah questioned discrepancies in an agreement regarding the fees. Father Muokwe allegedly became enraged, flogging and slapping the teacher. A distressing video shared online shows Mrs. Ikeorah weeping, displaying visible bruises as she recounts the attack.
“He came and started flogging me and slapping me. He claimed I called the teachers for a meeting. I did not call any meeting. See my face, see my back, see my legs,” Mrs. Ikeorah said, recalling the traumatic experience.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with residents of Ifitedunu and online communities condemning the priest’s actions. Many are calling for an immediate suspension of Father Muokwe and a thorough investigation by the church and law enforcement.
Mrs. Ikeorah, a widow and grandmother, is a dedicated Primary 6 teacher at the school. Despite the public outcry, the school management and the Awka Diocese have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
