Blue Band margarine, a product of Chanrai Brands Ltd (formerly known as Upfield Ghana), has been re-launched into the Ghanaian market. The product, now available in a 10-kilogram pack, was reintroduced at an event on February 14, 2025, held at the Ghana Shippers Authority’s auditorium in Accra.
The re-launch event was attended by notable figures, including Nii Abossey, the Chief of Abossey Okai, as well as representatives from the Ghana Bakers Association across several districts, including Ashaiman, Kasoa, Okaishie, and Madina.
During the event, Vanessa Boafo, Marketing Manager of Chanrai Brands, addressed the gathering, stating that the reintroduction of the 10kg pack of Blue Band, which was originally launched five years ago, is a reflection of the brand’s ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction. She highlighted the importance of Blue Band as a legacy brand, trusted in Ghanaian homes and businesses for generations.
“Blue Band is more than just a brand; it is a legacy and a trusted partner in kitchens and businesses for generations,” Boafo said. She assured consumers that the product is readily available in all supermarkets, wholesalers, and retail shops across the country.
While the re-launch was met with enthusiasm, some bakers and consumers expressed concerns over the price of the new 10kg pack, which is set at GH₵380. The rising costs of other baking ingredients were cited as a major concern for many.
“The price is too high; it would be helpful if something could be done about it,” said Comfort Asare, a baker.
In response to these concerns, Boafo assured the attendees that the company would review the pricing and engage with stakeholders to address the issue.
The event also featured remarks from Neeraj Chaldan, the Financial Controller of Chanrai Brands. Chaldan emphasized the nutritional benefits of Blue Band margarine, noting that the product is enriched with essential vitamins such as A, D, B6, and B12, along with niacin and folic acid.
Additionally, Chaldan revealed that the company has plans to expand its product range with new size options. “In the near future, we will expand our portfolio by introducing 5kg, 15kg, and 20kg packs to cater to the diverse needs of our customers,” he added.
