Inter Milan Misses Opportunity to Top Serie A After Defeat at Juventus

- Inter Milan miss chance to top Serie A after Juventus defeat
- Francisco Conceicao's 74th-minute goal seals 1-0 win for Juventus
- Inter remain two points behind leaders Napoli in Serie A standings
Inter Milan’s bid to move to the top of Serie A was thwarted on Sunday as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Juventus, leaving them still two points behind leaders Napoli.
Simone Inzaghi’s side had the opportunity to overtake Napoli, who had drawn 2-2 at Lazio the previous day, but were unable to capitalize on the slip-up. Victory would have seen Inter sit first at the end of a matchday for the first time since September.
However, a 74th-minute strike from Francisco Conceicao secured all three points for Juventus in Turin. The goal came after a brilliant piece of skill from Randal Kolo Muani, who maneuvered past two defenders in the box before setting up Conceicao to fire home.
The defeat was just Inter’s third of the season, but it marked their second loss in the last three matches, leaving them with just one win in their last four outings. Despite creating chances, including a shot from Marcus Thuram that hit the post, Inter was unable to find the equalizer.
Juventus, who were also under pressure in the match, had earlier seen Inter’s Denzel Dumfries make a superb goalline clearance to deny Teun Koopmeiners’ shot.
This victory marked Juventus’ third consecutive league win, and the team has now gone 25 games in Serie A with just one loss this season.
Juventus, now back in the top four, will shift their focus to their Champions League campaign on Wednesday, with the second leg of their knockout phase play-off against PSV Eindhoven following a 2-1 win in the first leg.
