Election Re-run in Ashanti Region Sees One Arrest

- One arrested in Ashanti Region election clash
- Police boost security after last week's violence
- Vehicles restricted, barricades set up
A clash between the police and supporters of a candidate in the re-run of the Council of State election in the Ashanti Region has resulted in the arrest of one individual.

The arrested person, reportedly a supporter of former NDC Chairman in the region, Yaw Obimpeh, was among those who ignored police orders and attempted to bypass barricades set up at the election venue.

The re-run of today’s election follows the abrupt suspension of last week’s vote, which was halted after a group of assailants attacked Electoral Commission (EC) officials and destroyed several materials, including the cast ballot papers.

In response to the disruptions, the police have heightened security measures for the election re-run. Vehicles are now prohibited from entering the venue, and approximately six police-manned barricades have been erected along the streets leading to the Prempeh Assembly Hall. Additionally, traffic has been closed off in the surrounding areas.
Hundreds of police officers, equipped with crowd control tools, have been deployed to ensure security at the venue.
