The Black Queens, Ghana’s senior women’s football team, have arrived in Casablanca ahead of their upcoming international friendly against Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses, scheduled for Friday, February 21.
The 19-player squad, which departed Accra on Saturday, February 15, is gearing up for the match, marking their first under newly appointed head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren. Bjorkegren, who was recently introduced as the new manager of the team, has already unveiled his squad, which includes just four players from the Ghana Women’s Premier League.
Several foreign-based players have already joined the camp, with Jennifer Cudjoe, Azumah Bugre, and Grace Asantewaa set to arrive later today from the USA, Turkey, and Mexico, respectively. Their arrival will bring the squad size up to 22.
Training sessions will commence on Monday, with additional sessions planned leading up to the highly anticipated match. In a last-minute change, Mary Amponsah, the top scorer in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, has been called up to replace the ill Alice Kusi.
Following the friendly match against Morocco at the Père Jègo Stadium, the Black Queens will play Moroccan club side AS FAR Club three days later.
