Fire in Axim Leaves Two Children Burned After Alleged Jealous Lover’s Attack

A jealous lover, Joseph Richard, is accused of setting fire to the room of his girlfriend, Betty Herman, in Axim, located in the Western Region.

The incident took place around 3 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025, while Betty’s children were asleep in the room. The fire left two children, 16-year-old Joseph Ben and 3-year-old Richlove Asiedua Yeboah, severely burned.

According to reports, the attack occurred after Betty asked Richard for a breakup. Eyewitnesses allege that Richard set the room on fire with the intention of killing the children. However, thanks to the quick actions of neighbors, who immediately contacted firefighters and the police, the children were rescued.

The victims are currently receiving treatment for their injuries at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where they continue to fight for their lives.

Residents reported that Richard fled the scene after starting the fire, but police found his clothes and a gallon, believed to have contained fuel, at the location.

Local residents have urged the police to apprehend Richard and ensure that he is held fully accountable for his actions under the law.
