Fire Engulfs Multiple Wooden Structures and Containers Near Madina

- Fire ravages Agbogba
- 12 structures destroyed
- Fire brought under control
A devastating fire outbreak on Sunday destroyed multiple wooden structures and containers along the Agbogba to Ritz Junction Road near Madina. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly responded to the emergency despite facing several challenges. Their prompt intervention prevented further destruction, bringing the raging fire under control.
At least 12 structures, both residential and commercial, were consumed by the flames. However, firefighters managed to safeguard over 50 nearby structures, preventing the inferno from spreading further.
Providing details on the incident, Alex King Nartey of the GNFS Public Relations Department highlighted the intensity of the fire, attributing it to the nature of the affected structures.
“It’s a lot of wooden and container structures planted together, so it made the spread of the fire much easier,” he explained.
He further pointed out the difficulties firefighters encountered while tackling the blaze.
“These containers have air conditioners, and they are also heavily locked, making it very difficult for us to break in and get to the seat of the fire,” Mr. Nartey stated.
Another major obstacle was the presence of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) poles within the cluster of wooden structures. This created hazardous conditions, as some firefighters experienced electric shocks while combating the flames.
Despite these challenges, the GNFS successfully contained the situation.
“As it stands right now, the fire is under control. We are still working to ensure there is no room for re-ignition,” Mr. Nartey assured.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire while urging residents and business owners to take necessary precautions to prevent future occurrences.
