Konongo Firefighters Narrowly Escape Mob Attack

Firefighters from the Konongo Odumasi and Ejisu Fire Stations in the Ashanti Region narrowly escaped an attack by an angry mob while responding to a fire emergency. This incident marks the third time the fire service has faced such hostility due to delayed responses to fire outbreaks in the municipality.

Speaking with Adom News, DOII Joe Bryden, the Konongo Divisional Fire Service Commander, explained that the fire service had received a distress call from Odumasi Suntreso. However, they were unable to respond promptly as their fire tender had been out of service for the past two months.

Due to the malfunction, the Konongo Fire Station was forced to call for assistance from the Ejisu Fire Station. Upon their arrival, the firefighters were met with an enraged mob that began yelling and throwing stones at their vehicle. The mob’s actions caused significant damage to the fire tender, including the windscreen, headlights, and other parts of the vehicle.

The Konongo Odumasi Fire Station, situated in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality, serves not only Konongo but also four other districts in the Ashanti Region, highlighting the importance of a fully functional fire service in the area.
