The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled 280 members in the Agona West constituency of the Central Region.
This decision was made in line with Article 3(9)(1) of the Party’s Constitution (2017), as amended. The expulsion was unanimously agreed upon at an Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
The meeting, which included Constituency officers, the Municipal Chief Executive, Founding Members of the constituency, current and former members of the Council of Elders and Patrons, members of the Constituency Disciplinary Committee, and Electoral Area Coordinators, discussed the matter thoroughly before reaching the conclusion.
A statement signed by the constituency chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, indicated that the expulsion followed multiple complaints from party members regarding anti-party behavior by the affected individuals.
The allegations against the expelled members included running as independent candidates against the NPP’s officially elected parliamentary candidate for 2024, supporting another political party, backing an independent candidate in the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election in the constituency, and continuing to demonstrate such conduct in every election year.
Among those expelled are polling station chairmen, youth and women’s organizers, and other party members.
