The Ghana Education Service (GES) has called for swift action from the police to investigate and apprehend those responsible for a devastating fire that destroyed the library of the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools.
The fire, which broke out on Tuesday, December 17, completely engulfed the library, which was also being used to store ballot boxes from the Ablekuma North constituency parliamentary election.
Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director-General of GES, expressed his deep concern over the incident, describing it as one of the most unfortunate events during his tenure. He emphasized that those behind the destruction would face the full force of the law.
“This is an unfortunate event and one of the saddest moments in my tenure as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service,” Dr. Nkansah said. “The school recently received a state-of-the-art library project, among the best in basic schools nationwide. Additionally, it benefited from recent support from the ministry. The last thing anyone would expect is the devastation we now face.”
The fire has had a severe impact on the school, disrupting learning and displacing numerous pupils who relied on the library for their studies.
However, Dr. Nkansah assured the public that the GES has activated its education and emergency contingency plans to mitigate the damage. He confirmed that measures are being put in place at both the district and regional levels to minimize the disruption caused by the fire.
