The family of Police Constable Kennedy Ofori Boateng is seeking justice and a formal explanation from the Ghana Police Service following his tragic death at a police checkpoint on the Prang to Kintampo Road in the Bono East Region.¹

The incident occurred on Sunday, December 15, 2024, when a group of mourners was stopped at a routine police checkpoint. Tensions escalated after one of the mourners allegedly insulted a female officer, prompting a call for backup. Constable Kennedy Ofori Boateng was among the responding officers.

As the situation deteriorated, the mourners attacked and attempted to disarm one of the officers. During the ensuing struggle, Constable Kennedy was accidentally shot in the abdomen. Despite being rushed to a nearby health center, he succumbed to his injuries.

The family expressed distress over the handling of the incident, stating that they were only notified late in the evening by a police officer who mistakenly attributed Kennedy’s death to election-related violence. However, online videos suggest a different sequence of events.

To date, the family has not received formal communication or support from the Ghana Police Service and has yet to see Kennedy’s body since Sunday. The family is demanding an official statement from the Police and accountability for the tragic incident.
