Rapist and Robber Sentenced to 40 Years Imprisonment

Story Highlights
  • Fisherman jailed 40yrs for robbery, rape
  • Victim attacked in front of 2 kids
  • Tetteh serving separate 6-yr sentence

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a fisherman, Emmanuel Tetteh, popularly known as 666 or Escoba, to 40 years imprisonment for robbery and rape.

Tetteh, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was found guilty by the court presided over by Judge Isaac Addo. This sentence comes while Tetteh is currently serving a six-year imprisonment term for stealing money and a mobile phone.

According to the court, Tetteh’s actions were premeditated, and he had sexual intercourse with the victim in the presence of her two daughters, aged three and five years. The court also noted that Tetteh committed the offence while another case against him was pending at Circuit Court 10 in Accra.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, argued that considering Tetteh’s antecedents, the severest sentence should be passed on him. The prosecution called two witnesses, while the accused called his wife as a defence witness.

The Facts of the Case

The complainant, whose name was withheld, reported to the police that on June 23, 2022, at about 6 a.m., she woke up to find her sliding window and burglar-proof door open. Initially, she thought it was her daughter who had left them open. However, it was Tetteh who emerged from her bedroom with a knife to her throat.

Tetteh asked the complainant to keep quiet, lie down, and hand over her Samsung Galaxy A12 mobile phone valued at GH¢900. He then fondled her and asked her to lead him to where she kept her money. The complainant’s money was in her bedroom, and Tetteh followed her there, robbing her of cash in the sum of GH¢2,090, along with an unspecified amount of money.

After robbing the complainant, Tetteh had sex with her after giving her a hefty slap when she declined. “After raping her, he used the bedsheet beside her to clean his penis and bolted,” the prosecution said.

The prosecution observed that a similar modus operandi was used by Tetteh in other criminal adventures, as captured in cases before the Adjabeng District Court Circuit Court 10 in Accra. On July 15, 2024, the complainant identified Tetteh in an identification parade.
