The Mpraeso Circuit Court has revoked the bail of 17 of the 27 individuals charged in connection with the alleged kidnapping of the Abetifihene. This decision came after the prosecution, led by State Attorney Cyril Keteku, revealed that none of the 17 suspects were, as previously claimed, operatives of National Security.
In a request to the court, the prosecution sought a warrant to allow the Cybersecurity Unit of the Ghana Police Service to retrieve CCTV footage from Abetifi Township, where the incident occurred on November 7, 2024.
Defending the accused, the legal team of Kimanthi and Partners, led by Francis Bruce, argued that bail should be upheld, asserting that under Ghanaian law, every offense is bailable.
However, Her Honour Adwoa Akyemaa Ofosu, presiding over the case, ruled in favor of the prosecution, revoking the bail of the 17 suspects and ordering them to remain in custody until the next hearing on January 6, 2025. The judge also granted the prosecution’s request for the CCTV footage to be accessed.
Among the remaining 10 suspects, four, including prominent figure Nana Yaa Asantewaa, have met their bail conditions, while the other six remain in police custody.
Following the ruling, Francis Bruce, the lead counsel for the accused, spoke to Adom News, stating that his team is awaiting the detailed judgment to decide on their next course of action.
