  • Calls for unity to "reset Ghana"

Renowned actress, creative industry icon, and philanthropist Akorfa Edjeani has called on Ghanaians to exercise patience as the country works to overcome its current economic challenges.

Speaking at a Thanksgiving Service organized by Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzra, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho West, Edjeani expressed hope in the leadership of President-elect John Dramani Mahama but cautioned that the process of economic recovery would take time.

The Thanksgiving Service, which marked Bedzra’s victory for a fifth term, was attended by party supporters and constituents to celebrate the success of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 7, 2024 general elections.

“For me, this win is very significant. It tells us that Ghanaians are very tired of the arrogance and the malfeasance, the financial doldrums that the elephant plunged us into,” Edjeani said, expressing dissatisfaction with the outgoing administration’s handling of the country’s economy.

Edjeani did not hold back in her critique of the current economic situation, placing blame on the previous government for the struggles Ghanaians are facing today.

“What I am expecting from H.E. John Dramani Mahama is to lead us out of all these economic nightmares. It’s not going to be easy, so I indulge all Ghanaians to be patient because there is nothing in the coffers, let’s be realistic. The country has been turned upside down. They have stolen everything, all the money is gone. It’s going to take time to recover, so I hope that Ghanaians will be patient and we will come together as one people,” she stated.

Edjeani emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration, urging Ghanaians to work together to rebuild the nation. “We all have to work hand in hand together to reset Ghana and build Ghana for the Ghana that we want,” she added.

Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzra, the re-elected MP for Ho West, also spoke to the need for national recovery. Addressing his constituents, he assured them that the new administration would take decisive action in its early days.

“Within 120 days of the incoming administration, all loots will be recovered,” Mr. Bedzra pledged, further noting that the NDC manifesto would be fully implemented to address the needs of the Ho West constituency.

Bedzra’s victory in the December 2024 elections was emphatic, with him securing 28,110 votes, a significant lead over his opponent, Eric Nick Yao Gonyuie of the NPP, who garnered 5,043 votes out of 33,775 votes cast.
