“Leaving Kotoko Was a Hard Decision for Me” – Kwame Opoku

Asante Kotoko forward, Kwame Opoku, has revealed that his decision to leave the club was an emotional one, particularly after rejoining the team.

The striker, who originally left Kotoko in 2021 following a standout season, returned on a two-and-a-half-year contract. Before his departure, Opoku was a key figure in the team, earning significant praise for his performances, which led to his move to Algerian side USM Alger.

Reflecting on the tough decision to leave the club, Opoku shared his feelings with Kotoko’s media team, stating, “Leaving Kotoko was a hard decision for me. The morning before my departure I felt bad about leaving a great club like Kotoko. It wasn’t easy because I had grown attached to the team and the supporters who made me feel at home.”

Opoku had an impactful stint during his first period at Kotoko, scoring nine goals and establishing himself as an integral part of the squad. However, despite his contributions, he left without winning any trophies, a situation he is determined to rectify upon his return.

“I have to help the team as a whole to achieve its goals to win trophies and compete on the continent. I couldn’t win any trophy in my first stint but I believe this time I have a lot to offer,” he emphasized.

The 25-year-old striker was officially unveiled ahead of Kotoko’s victory over Hearts of Oak last Sunday. As part of his return, Opoku is expected to form a formidable attacking partnership with the in-form Albert Amoah.

However, it remains uncertain whether Opoku will feature in Kotoko’s upcoming Matchday 14 fixture against Dreams FC at the Tuba Astro Turf this weekend.
