The Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdul Mumin Haroun, has passed away at the age of 74.
Family sources confirmed that the revered religious leader died on Tuesday night at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, following a short illness.
Alhaji Haroun, one of the longest-serving Imams in the region, ascended to the position of Chief Imam in 2011 after serving as the deputy to the late Sheikh Imran Musah.
Known for his unifying role in resolving conflicts across the Ashanti Region, Imam Haroun was widely respected for promoting peace and development within Muslim communities as well as the broader region. His leadership efforts included overseeing the refurbishment of the Kumasi Central Mosque and leading other transformative initiatives throughout the Ashanti region.
He will be buried at the Tafo Cemetery after “Janaza” prayers at the Kumasi Central Mosque on Wednesday.
Alhaji Abdul Mumin Haroun is survived by two wives and six children.
