A tragic incident occurred on Sunday, December 15, 2024, along the Prang-Kintampo road in the Bono East region, resulting in the death of a policeman. The unfortunate event took place around 11:30 am at Abease, where a funeral procession was underway.
According to information gathered by Adom News, the mourners encountered a police barrier en route to the cemetery, leading to a confrontation. The situation took a turn for the worse when one of the mourners allegedly insulted a policewoman, prompting a call for backup.
Upon arrival, the reinforcement team clashed with the mourners, during which a policeman fired warning shots. In an attempt by the mourners to disarm him, the gun accidentally went off, shooting his colleague in the abdomen.
The officer responsible for the shooting fled the scene after realizing the harm caused. The injured officer was rushed to a nearby clinic and later transferred to Techiman Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and an investigation is likely to be launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
