  • Cause of fire still under investigation

A fire that broke out early this morning at the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools has raised serious concerns, as the facility was housing ballot boxes for the Ablekuma North constituency.

The fire, which started around 1:40 a.m., is believed to have originated in the school’s library, where the ballot boxes were stored.

Alex King Nartey, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana National Fire Service, confirmed that while the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, investigations are actively underway.

In an unexpected development, additional ballot papers were discovered burned outside the school premises, further complicating the situation and fueling speculation about the circumstances behind the blaze.

The Fire Service’s operations commander, along with his team, made significant progress in containing the fire. Personnel were able to salvage nearby buildings, preventing the flames from spreading to other parts of the school.

As of the latest report, the fire has been largely confined after two hours of firefighting, though it has not yet been completely extinguished.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, piecing together the sequence of events and assessing the full extent of the damage to the election materials.
