Aboubakar Ouattara, the head coach of Hearts of Oak, has refused to blame his players for their 1-0 loss to arch-rivals Asante Kotoko in the Matchday 13 fixture of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.

Despite his side’s strong away record this season, the Phobians were unable to maintain their unbeaten run, falling to Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

The match’s only goal came from Albert Amoah, who took advantage of a miscommunication between Hearts defender Kelvin Osei Assibey and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, allowing him to slot the ball into the net and secure the win for Kotoko.

Speaking after the game, Ouattara expressed his frustration but made it clear he would not single out any player for criticism. “I don’t want to blame any player but when you are big and go to the supermarket, don’t bring any small attackers and that is the problem,” he said.

With the loss, Hearts of Oak remain in 7th place on the league table with 19 points. The team will now turn their focus to their next match, where they will host Berekum Chelsea in a Matchday 14 encounter at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
