Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi has issued a stern warning to those involved in post-election violence, looting, and property destruction, urging them to stop immediately or face legal consequences.

In a public address, ACP Ansah-Akrofi emphasized that despite the ongoing unrest and provocation, police officers have refrained from using firearms. “We want to use this opportunity to caution those perpetrating these acts. So far, no firearms have been used, but they should not push it,” she stated. “Our officers are ready to respond appropriately, according to the law, to ensure that the peace of this country is not taken for granted,” she added.

The warning came as ACP Ansah-Akrofi provided an update on efforts to manage tensions following the election. She detailed several incidents of unrest, including crowd gatherings in Cantonments, Accra, and an attack on the Ghana Gas facility that left a military officer injured. Other disturbances involved masked individuals protesting at the Ghana Petroleum Authority and the Passport Office, as well as unrest at the Engineers Centre in Asuboi, Ayensuano (Eastern Region), the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority in Tema, and Wenchi in the Bono Region. In some cases, groups attempted to storm police stations to free detainees.

ACP Ansah-Akrofi also announced the arrest of 10 more suspects, bringing the total number of individuals in custody to 107. “All suspects are being processed in accordance with the law,” she confirmed.

Reaffirming the commitment of the security agencies to maintain peace and order, ACP Ansah-Akrofi called on the public to cooperate with authorities in order to ensure the country’s stability.
