The Ghana Police Service has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging the kidnapping of Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh, the Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Parliamentary Candidate for Ahafo Ano North, as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the police clarified that the reports were untrue and urged the public to disregard the claims.
“The Ghana Police Service would like to refute claims circulating on social media suggesting that Hon. Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh, the Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has allegedly been kidnapped,” the statement read.
The police further assured that necessary security measures were being provided to ensure his safety.
“We wish to categorically state that this claim is false and the Police have been in contact with him and providing him with all the security support he needs as the Parliamentary candidate of Ahafo Ano North Constituency in the Ashanti Region,” the statement added.
The clarification comes amid tensions in several parts of the country, as the Parliamentary election results continue to be delayed due to violence and disruptions. As of Monday evening, results from nine constituencies had yet to be declared.
These constituencies included Awutu Senya East, Nsawam Adoagyir, Akwatia, Suhum, Techiman South, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, Ahafo Ano North, and Damongo.
Jean Mensah, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, stated on Monday that the commission’s offices had been besieged by political party supporters, making it impossible to complete the collation process.
Late Monday evening, the results for Damongo were confirmed in favor of the New Patriotic Party’s Samuel Abu Jinapor.
