A claim has been circulating that John Mahama, the 2024 NDC flagbearer, has won the Special voting exercise conducted on December 2, 2024. However, this claim has been found to be false.

According to the Electoral Commission, the ballots cast during the Special Voting exercise have yet to be counted. The Commission has explained that the Special Voting ballots will be counted at the various Constituency Collation Centres after the polls close on December 7, 2024. This is in line with Regulation 23 of the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I. 127), which states that after the Special Voting exercise, the returning officer shall “ensure that the ballot boxes are kept in safe custody after the poll has closed.”

In a related development, the Electoral Commission has been working to ensure peaceful and transparent elections. Recently, the Commission’s Chairperson, Jean Mensa, urged all political parties to accept the results of the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful and stable environment during the elections.

It’s essential to rely on credible sources of information to avoid spreading misinformation, especially during critical periods like elections.
