Defending FA Cup champions, Manchester United, have been drawn away to record 14-time winners, Arsenal, in the third round of the competition.
Premier League leaders Liverpool will host League Two side Accrington Stanley, while Manchester City will welcome Salford City, the club owned by members of Manchester United’s ‘Class of 92.’
Tamworth, one of only two non-league clubs remaining in the competition, will face a tough challenge at home against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
The third-round fixtures will be played over the weekend of Saturday, January 11.
This round sees the 44 Premier League and Championship clubs enter the competition, joining the 20 lower-league and non-league clubs who advanced from the second round held last weekend.
The draw for Manchester United and Arsenal was met with audible groans from supporters at Old Trafford. United, who lifted the FA Cup for the 13th time in May after defeating Manchester City, will now face their rivals Arsenal in what promises to be a challenging encounter.
Salford City, owned by former Manchester United stars Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, and David Beckham, will travel to face Manchester City, a match that is set to capture the attention of fans across both clubs.
Tamworth, who are the lowest-ranked team remaining in the competition, will host Tottenham Hotspur, who are managed by Ange Postecoglou, as a reward for their penalty shootout victory over League One side Burton Albion. In another intriguing tie, fellow National League team Dagenham & Redbridge will face Championship side Millwall.
In a personal twist, Everton full-back Ashley Young, 39, may come up against his 18-year-old son, Tyler, after the Toffees were drawn at home to Peterborough. The former England international took to X, expressing his excitement: “Wow…dreams might come true.”
Elsewhere, Chelsea will host League Two’s bottom club Morecambe, while fellow fourth-tier side Bromley will travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United.
