Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised to establish a tomato processing factory in Akomadan, located in the Offinso North constituency of the Ashanti Region, if elected president. The proposed factory is part of his government’s broader industrialization agenda aimed at creating jobs for Ghana’s youth.
Dr. Bawumia made the pledge during a stakeholders’ durbar at Akomadan on Tuesday, where he addressed local residents and outlined his vision for the country’s economic development. The establishment of the factory is expected to boost the agricultural sector in the region, providing a local market for tomato farmers and contributing to the processing and export of agricultural products.
During the event, Dr. Bawumia also discussed his plans to modernize agriculture in Ghana. He emphasized that his administration would establish District Agriculture Mechanisation Centres in agricultural districts to supply farmers with modern equipment such as tractors, harvesters, and ploughing machines, enabling them to expand their farms and improve productivity.
In line with his commitment to sustainable mining, Dr. Bawumia revealed plans to strengthen the Ghana Geological Survey Authority (GGSA) by providing it with the necessary resources to conduct detailed geological investigations in designated areas across the country. This initiative, he said, would help identify mineralized areas, particularly gold deposits, and address the challenges posed by illegal mining, which has been responsible for significant environmental damage, including land degradation and water pollution.
“The initiative is a demonstration of our resolve to tackle illegal mining and enhance the regulation of small-scale mining in the country,” Dr. Bawumia said, stressing the importance of safeguarding the environment while promoting responsible mining practices.
Dr. Bawumia also outlined plans to improve Ghana’s transportation infrastructure, particularly in the rail sector. He announced that his administration would focus on the development of both the Western and Eastern railway lines, aiming to facilitate the transportation of mineral resources and other goods across the country. For example, he said his government would extend the Tema rail lines to Kumasi and further north to the Northern Region, while the railway lines in Awaso, Western Region, would be expanded to Kumasi.
In closing, Dr. Bawumia appealed to the electorate to vote for him and all NPP parliamentary candidates in the upcoming elections to ensure the continuation of the party’s transformative agenda for the country.
“Vote for me to become the next president of Ghana, and for all NPP parliamentary candidates across the country, to enable us to continue the transformative agenda of the NPP government,” he urged.
