The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced a nationwide strike set to begin on Thursday, November 7, 2024, following the government’s failure to finalize a salary structure for public sector workers.
The decision to strike comes after a notice was served by CLOGSAG on October 23, 2024, in which the association expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in finalizing and implementing a new salary structure for its members, which was originally expected to take effect from January 1, 2025.
CLOGSAG has stated that the strike is in response to the government’s failure to meet the association’s demands by the October 31 deadline. Despite multiple meetings between CLOGSAG representatives and government officials, the association claims that no concrete proposal or progress has been made.
In a statement issued on the matter, CLOGSAG explained that the government’s inaction had left them with no choice but to take drastic measures. The association also declared that they would no longer engage with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), accusing the Commission of acting in bad faith.
“As a result of the delay in the completion of the salary structure and other conditions of service, CLOGSAG members have no other option than to stay at home from November 7, 2024,” the statement read.
CLOGSAG’s strike is expected to disrupt various public services across the country as its members, which include civil servants and local government employees, take industrial action in demand of fair and timely salary adjustments.
