Two influencers tragically drowned in Brazil after their boat capsized following a yacht party, reportedly due to their refusal to wear life jackets. The victims, Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim, 37, and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, 27, were found dead after their overcrowded vessel sank off the coast, an area known as the Devil’s Throat.
According to police, the women were aboard an overloaded boat that struggled to navigate back to shore when it was hit by a massive wave. Sao Vicente police commissioner Marcos Alexandre Alfino revealed that the influencers had declined to wear life jackets, citing concerns about their selfies and tanning.
“Some didn’t want to put them on because they were taking selfies. They said that they get in the way of their tanning,” Commissioner Alfino stated.
The boat’s captain, who survived the incident, reported that he had been instructed to transport six influencers despite the vessel’s maximum capacity being five passengers. When the wave struck, the boat became too heavy to stay afloat and began to sink. The skipper emphasized that he had tried desperately to save everyone on board.
Beatriz’s body was the first to be recovered, drifting at sea and retrieved by Brazil’s Maritime Firefighters. Aline’s body was discovered a week later, washed ashore at Itaquitanduva Beach.
Authorities are now investigating whether the women’s deaths were simply tragic accidents or if they could have been prevented. Commissioner Alfino noted, “All this is being determined very calmly to conclude if the fatalities were based on recklessness or negligence.”
