Nigeria Claims 2024 U-20 WAFU B Cup of Nations Title with 2-1 Victory Over Ghana

Nigeria emerged victorious in the 2024 U-20 WAFU B Cup of Nations, defeating Ghana 2-1 in the final match held on Wednesday, October 30.

The Flying Eagles showcased their dominance in the first half, with Kparobo Arierhi scoring the opening goal in the 33rd minute through a precise finish. Just ten minutes later, Arierhi struck again, firing into the top left corner after capitalizing on a loose ball in the box, extending Nigeria’s lead to 2-0 at halftime.

In contrast, Ghana’s Black Satellites, coached by Desmond Ofei, faced challenges in the first half but regrouped after the break. They controlled possession and made a concerted effort to push forward, with Hayford Adu Boahen creating several chances in the final third. However, the team struggled to convert those opportunities.

Ghana managed to get on the scoreboard in the 75th minute when Jerry Afriyie headed in his fifth goal of the tournament, igniting hopes for a comeback. Despite Ghana’s late surge, Nigeria maintained their composure to secure the victory and lift the championship trophy.

Both Nigeria and Ghana will now prepare for the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for next year.
