Ghanaian rapper Edem Goget’em recently expressed his belief that he should have won the Artiste of the Year award at the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. In a post on X, he compared his situation to this year’s Ballon d’Or, where many felt Vinicius Jnr was unjustly overlooked for the top honor.
In his post, Edem stated, “Why #BallondOr come dey behave like the way VGMA take do me 2015 Artist of the Year? This is a heinous crime!! A daylight robbery!! … Vinicius Jr is the REAL WINNER?”
At the 2015 awards, the nominees for the Artiste of the Year category included notable artists such as Daddy Lumba, Stonebwoy, Guru, Edem, MzVee, Sarkodie, and Samini. Stonebwoy ultimately took home the award, stating in his acceptance speech, “I believe that the other artistes are happy I won…Behold how tall we have grown…This is well deserved.”
On that memorable night, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, and Edem were the biggest winners, each securing three awards. Edem’s track “Koene” received multiple nominations, while the remix of his song “The One” also earned him a nomination in the Best Rapper category.
