New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed his condolences following the death of Akua Donkor, the 2024 presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).
In a heartfelt tribute shared on Facebook, Dr. Bawumia recognized Madam Donkor’s significant contributions to Ghana’s democratic landscape. He extended his sympathies to her family and the GFP, stating, “I write to commiserate with the family and political party of Madam Akua Donkor, who until her death was the 2024 presidential candidate for the Ghana Freedom Party. She played her part in consolidating our democracy. May the soul of Madam Akua Donkor rest in peace.”
Akua Donkor was among the 13 candidates approved by the Electoral Commission (EC) to run in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for December 7, 2024. She passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, after a brief illness.
In light of her passing, the EC has halted the printing of ballot papers for the presidential election and has given the GFP a 10-day deadline to nominate a new candidate.
