Valencia’s Copa del Rey match against Parla Escuela has been postponed due to the devastating flash floods that have ravaged Spain, claiming at least 62 lives.
The torrential rain, which brought over a year’s worth of rainfall to the town of Chiva, near Valencia, in just eight hours, prompted the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to reschedule the match. Originally set for Wednesday, the game will now take place on November 6 at the same venue in Parla, 15 miles from Madrid.
“The RFEF is working intensively with the affected clubs,” a federation statement read, indicating that further fixtures scheduled for Thursday may also be rearranged.
Valencia’s upcoming La Liga match against Real Madrid, slated for Saturday at Mestalla Stadium, remains unchanged for now.
The severe weather has caused widespread disruption, and the RFEF’s decision aims to ensure player and spectator safety amidst the ongoing crisis.
The rescheduled Copa del Rey match will provide a brief reprieve for the affected communities, but the focus remains on recovery efforts and supporting those impacted by the tragic floods.
