A 22-year-old driver’s mate, Emmanuel Oteng, also known as “Sika Gari,” has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Abuakwa Circuit Court for breaking into a school storeroom and stealing various items.
Oteng pleaded guilty to the charge of theft after admitting to stealing items from the Bantama M/A Junior High School, including a tabletop fridge, a plastic barrel, and two metal buckets.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jonas Newlove Agyei presented the case before the court, which was presided over by Mrs. Philomina Ansaah Asiedu. He indicated that the complainant was the Headmaster of Bantama M/A JHS, where Oteng also resided.
On October 17, around 7 a.m., the Headmaster arrived at the school and discovered that the window of the staff common room had been broken. Upon entering, he found that the school’s Philips tabletop fridge, valued at GH¢3,000, a barrel worth GH¢600, and two metal bucket stands, totaling GH¢1,200, had been stolen, amounting to a total loss of GH¢4,800.
The Headmaster reported the incident to the local Assembly Member, prompting inquiries that led to Oteng’s arrest from his hideout. He was subsequently handed over to the Suntreso Police.
During the investigation, Oteng admitted in his caution statement that he had sold the stolen items to a person named Kofi Kombate at Suntreso, but authorities were unable to locate the alleged buyer. Following the investigation, Oteng was charged and brought before the court, where he was convicted.
