“Academic Year Starts November 7, Not October 30” – Education Ministry Clarifies
- SHS Academic Year Starts November 7
- Registration and Orientation Begin October 30
- Online Registration Available for SHS Freshers
The Ministry of Education has sought to ease concerns among parents as new Senior High School (SHS) students prepare to begin the academic year.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng clarified that academic activities will officially commence on November 7, contrary to earlier reports suggesting a start date of October 30.
Addressing apprehensions regarding the readiness of students and parents, Mr. Kwarteng highlighted a one-week grace period for prospective students to facilitate a smooth transition into the new school year.
He pointed out that the introduction of a harmonized prospectus has simplified preparations for families, eliminating the need for travel to schools for essential items.
“We have never said it anywhere that the students should report to school on October 30. The registration and orientation begin on October 30, and it is different from saying that students are to report to school,” he stated.
He further explained, “The real time for academic activities to begin is on November 7, and I think that is where parents and students need clarification because people are complaining that the time is very short. We are not necessarily binding all students to go for the registration on October 30 because you can even do it online.”
