In a shocking incident, Mena Efua, a 35-year-old mother, is accused of selling her two-week-old baby for GH₵300 in Nkotompo, located in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.
The allegations were confirmed by Maame Esi, the suspect’s sister, in an interview with Connect FM. Maame Esi recounted that she assisted her sister during the delivery last week on Monday, but soon after, the baby went missing.
“I assisted her to deliver last week Monday at home. After a week, the baby is nowhere to be found. I interrogated her and she confessed to giving the baby to an unnamed person for GH₵300, but has refused to disclose the identity of the person,” she stated.
Maame Esi further revealed that her sister initially claimed to have given the baby to a nurse who had promised to find a buyer for the child, yet she has not provided the nurse’s name. “Initially she said she handed over the baby to a nurse who promised to sell the baby for her, but she has refused to name her. She is now telling us the baby is currently in Accra but can’t lead us to the exact place. We are currently looking for help to find the whereabouts of the baby,” Esi explained.
According to Maame Esi, the baby has been missing for almost three weeks since the delivery. Mena Efua allegedly entrusted the infant to someone who assured her they could secure a buyer, but that individual returned only with GH₵300 after the transaction.
The matter was first reported to the Sekondi Police Station and has since been referred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigation. Authorities at the Regional DOVVSU office confirmed that investigations into the case are currently underway.
