Agona West NPP Constituency Nasara Coordinator Shot in Campaign Clash

A violent campaign clash in Agona Nyarkrom, Central Region, has left Haruna Rashid, the Agona West NPP Constituency Nasara Coordinator, in critical condition. Rashid was shot during the incident, which occurred around 9 p.m. while he was traveling with the convoy of Agona West NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Chris Arthur.

According to police sources, the clash erupted when supporters of Chris Arthur and Cynthia Morrison, a rival candidate, encountered each other while campaigning in the same area. Tensions escalated when Mr. Arthur’s convoy encountered a roadblock allegedly set up by Ms. Morrison’s supporters. As the convoy attempted to turn away, shots were fired, and Rashid, who also serves as Mr. Arthur’s campaign manager, was struck in the ribs.

Chris Arthur recounted the incident, explaining that as they neared the Nyarkrom Township, they encountered the blockage. “We decided to change direction, but it was too late,” he said. Mr. Arthur described how unidentified individuals first poured alcohol on their driver, causing him to lose control before two men approached and shot Rashid.

Rashid was initially rushed to the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital and has since been transferred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment due to the severity of his injuries. Three other individuals were also injured in the clash.

Agona West NPP Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Jibri Tanko, has condemned the violence, warning all supporters to avoid intimidation. “We will not allow anyone to intimidate us in this election,” he stated firmly.

In addition, two supporters from Cynthia Morrison’s camp were also injured by gunfire and are receiving treatment at the Agona Nyarkrom Health Center as investigations continue.
