Police Launch Manhunt for Seven Suspected Armed Robbers in Konongo

Personnel of the Ghana Police Service are currently searching for seven suspected armed robbers involved in a brazen attack on residents of Konongo in the Ashanti Region, during which they made off with substantial sums of money.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene after being alerted to the police’s approach, abandoning their green Toyota Hilux pickup truck with registration number GT 6511 – 11.

However, one suspect, identified as 40-year-old Amid Tahiru, was apprehended with the assistance of community members who helped disarm him. According to a report from MyNewsGh, Tahiru and his accomplices attacked residents of the Konongo Low Cost area, robbing them of GH¢130,000 after locking one victim in a room.

When the gang realized their cover had been compromised, they attempted to escape, but community members quickly devised a plan to capture Tahiru as he tried to evade arrest by jumping into a river.

Police retrieved several items during their investigation, including a foreign pistol loaded with 11 live rounds of Luger 9mm ammunition, a Heckler and Koch MP5 rifle with 37 live rounds, two black face masks, two boxes containing an additional 35 live rounds of Luger 9mm ammunition, a hand grading machine, a tape measure, and a car number plate registered as GT 700 – 09.

The police have detained Amid Tahiru along with Hlordeme George, a security guard, for further investigation. Both suspects are expected to be arraigned before court soon.
