The Kwahu Traditional Council has officially dismissed rumors regarding the destoolment of its Paramount Chief, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II. This clarification follows the circulation of video footage that purportedly depicted the processes surrounding his alleged removal.
In a statement, the Council described the video as “false and misleading,” asserting that such claims are unfounded. “The dissemination of this misleading video on social media and selected WhatsApp group pages, particularly among known politicians, constitutes an attack on the rich heritage and traditions of Kwahu,” the statement read.
The Council emphasized that no formal charges or petitions have been presented against Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II that would warrant his destoolment. It further clarified that the traditional leader has not been found guilty of any misconduct in his role as Chairman of the Board of the Agricultural Development Bank.
“The demand for his resignation by the Banking Supervision Division of the Bank of Ghana came without prior opportunity for the Kwahuhene to respond to the allegations, which raises concerns about due process,” the statement noted. In light of these circumstances, the Kwahuhene chose to step aside to facilitate a proper resolution of the matter.
The Council urged residents to dismiss the disinformation, calling on the people of Kwahu and subjects of the Esono Gymah Mampong Agyei Stool to “remain calm and steadfast in support of the Paramountcy.”

Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II resigned from his position as Board Chair of the Agricultural Development Bank earlier this month following a directive from the Bank of Ghana. He is currently facing allegations from businessman Collins Darkwa, who claims the chief extorted money from him in exchange for a GH₵12 million loan.
In a petition submitted to the Office of the President, Darkwa detailed his assertion that the former Board Chairman demanded GH₵50,000 upfront, along with additional amounts, for the loan’s approval. He has appealed to the Presidency for assistance in recovering a total of GH₵2,408,000 from the Board Chairman, as reported by Channel 1 News.
