Renowned Ghanaian singer Wutah Kobby has spoken out against the practice of “early retirement” for musicians, emphasizing that artistes should be allowed to create and perform regardless of age.
In an exclusive interview with Graphic Showbiz from his USA base on Tuesday, October 15, Wutah Kobby, formerly of the duo Wutah, expressed frustration over Ghanaians’ tendency to write off musicians after a long time in the industry.
“Personally, I don’t think anybody has the right to make a creative stop working. Artistes should have the freedom to continue creating and performing as long as they want, regardless of age,” he stated.
Wutah Kobby highlighted the difference between music and sports, noting that music has no age limit. “The music profession has no age limit… Music is life; music is with us from birth and will be with us till death.”
He cited Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s recent performance in Ghana as an example, praising her enduring talent. “Recently, Yvonne Chaka Chaka performed in Ghana and you could tell the audience enjoyed her performance. How long has she been doing music? But she still got what it takes to move an audience.”
Wutah Kobby, who recently released the single “Dollar Dollar,” is preparing to launch a new EP featuring collaborations with Ghanaian artistes. “I am very hopeful the upcoming project will gain some good attention back home in Ghana. Great new music is coming, it’s a spiritual time for me and I want to entreat everyone to make the project worthwhile.”
