Ablakwa Pledges to Fight for Justice for Akosombo Dam Victims
- Ablakwa seeks justice for dam spillage victims
- Thousands affected, compensation delayed
- Legal action threatened against government
The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced plans to initiate legal proceedings to ensure that the government compensates all victims impacted by the recent Akosombo Dam spillage.
This incident, which took place in September 2023, resulted in the displacement of thousands of residents in the Lower Volta Basin, causing significant damage to farmlands and disrupting livelihoods.
During a victory walk organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in his constituency, Ablakwa reiterated his commitment to fighting for the rights of those affected by the disaster. He emphasized the importance of the government honoring its pledge for compensation and declared that his advocacy for justice would persist until all victims receive the support they are owed.
“The impact of this disaster has been devastating,” Ablakwa remarked, urging the government to take immediate steps to assist those who have lost their homes and means of livelihood.
“I have assured my constituents that we will not abandon them. We will ensure that all victims of the VRA’s spillage are fully compensated,” he stated firmly.
Ablakwa further highlighted his determination to pursue legal action, asserting, “We are pursuing legal action to compel the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government to fulfill its responsibilities. We will not rest until my constituents receive the compensation they deserve.”
