The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that October 30, 2024, will be the reporting date for first-year students in Senior High Schools (SHSs). This decision comes as part of a newly published timetable by the Service.
According to the GES, candidates who take the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will conclude their exams on February 8, 2025. Both incoming first-year students and those continuing their education will have scheduled breaks. They will be allowed to return home between December 5 and 9 to participate in the elections and will also have a Christmas break from December 20 to January 2.
The reporting date will officially mark the start of the new academic year for all SHS students. The GES stated, “Incoming First Year students for Single Track and Transitional Schools will also begin school on Wednesday, 30th October 2024. Additionally, all continuing students in Single Track Schools will reopen for the new academic year on Wednesday, 30th October 2024.”
The Service emphasized that this reopening date is aimed at aligning the school calendar to begin in September of the following year, facilitating the final year students’ preparation for the 2025/2026 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which is scheduled for May/June.
Details of the new academic calendar for second cycle institutions will be made available to schools and stakeholders.
