“Are Our Players Not Good or Is Management Failing?” – Serwaa Amihere Questions Black Stars

Renowned Ghanaian broadcaster Serwaa Amihere has expressed her dismay over the struggling Black Stars, Ghana’s senior national football team, as they teeter on the edge of elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Taking to her X account, Amihere shared her concerns about Ghana’s dismal performance, particularly following their recent loss to Sudan in the AFCON qualifiers’ second leg. Sudan is now coached by former Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah.

Amihere reflected on her childhood, recalling how rarely she heard about the Black Stars, except for the legendary Abedi “Pele” Ayew. Her love for football began when Ghana qualified for the World Cup under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, during the country’s infamous “dumsor” power crisis.

“We played in Ghana some years ago, and everyone was talking about Junior Agogo, but I don’t remember the year,” she remarked. “The only time I’ve seen Ghana win a cup was the one Dede Ayew, Agyemang Badu, and others won.”

Amihere acknowledged the Black Stars’ notable performances since then but lamented their lack of major trophies. She praised iconic players like Stephen Appiah, Michael Essien, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Asamoah Gyan, and a goalkeeper from a memorable Kalyppo advert.

However, she expressed disappointment in the current team’s underwhelming results, leading fans to anticipate losses and disregard matches altogether.

“What happened? Are our players not good, or is the management not doing its job? And why is Kwesi Appiah succeeding with another country when Ghanaians claimed he wasn’t good for the Black Stars?” Amihere questioned, seeking answers from fellow football enthusiasts @saddickadams, @fentuo_, @garyalsmith, and @otiadjei.

Background:
Ghana currently occupies third place in Group F with two points after four matches. Sudan stands second with seven points, while Angola leads with nine points, awaiting its fourth game. Ghana’s recent results include a 1-1 draw with Niger, a 1-0 loss to Angola at home, and a goalless draw against Sudan.

The Black Stars’ fate hangs in the balance as they struggle to revive their AFCON qualification hopes.
