On October 16, 2024, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia held a meeting with stakeholders from the creative arts sector at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. The gathering aimed to enhance collaboration between the tourism and creative arts industries.
During his address, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of developing homegrown solutions to ensure that Ghanaian musicians receive fair financial returns for their work. He highlighted a forthcoming platform designed to establish a more equitable revenue model for local creatives, enabling better tracking and collection of royalties while fostering sustainable growth in the industry.
A notable moment in the meeting occurred when Shatta Wale, the renowned Dancehall artist, humorously requested the Vice President to respond in pidgin. “I want to know what you have for our fans out there…and that’s the street…And your excellency I will please plead with you when you want to respond to what am saying, for today and the people out there on the street, just say it in pidgin small for me,” Shatta Wale said.
In a light-hearted exchange, Dr. Bawumia complied with the request, responding in pidgin, further engaging the audience and showcasing his rapport with the creative community.
