Sales Assistant Allegedly Gave Keys to Salifu Amoako’s 16-year-old son to drive

A sales assistant, Linda Bonsu Bempah, has been accused of giving the keys of a Jaguar vehicle to the 16-year-old son of Pastor Elisha Salifu Amoako, who caused the East Legon accident that killed two 12-year-old girls. Bempah works for the 25-year-old elder brother of the 16-year-old boy.

Pastor Elisha Salifu Amoako, founder and General Overseer of Alive Chapel International, and the mother of the boy, Mouha Amoako, have been charged alongside Bempah with one count of permitting an unlicensed person to drive, contrary to Regulation 42 of the Road Traffic Regulations 2012 Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2180.

At an Accra Circuit Court, the trio was granted bail in the sum of GH¢150,000. However, they have denied the charges and were admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 each with two sureties.

According to the prosecution, Bempah gave the keys to the 16-year-old knowing he was a minor and didn’t have a driver’s license. The 16-year-old then drove the vehicle, ramming into another car and killing two people.

The accident occurred on October 12, 2024, while celebrating the 25th birthday of his elder brother Elyon Amoako. The 16-year-old drove the vehicle with his friend towards the Bawaleshie direction on the Dzanie Ashie street, eventually crashing into an Acura 4×4 vehicle.

Both vehicles caught fire, trapping and killing the two 12-year-old occupants. The 16-year-old and two injured occupants are currently receiving medical attention at the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

Pastor Elisha Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako were arrested and detained on Tuesday for their son’s involvement in the accident. Police investigations established that the 16-year-old was driving the Jaguar SUV with one occupant when he rammed into the Honda Acura.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, visited the bereaved family and the injured at the hospital, accompanied by a team from the Police Management Board.
